Meet Jerry Mermis, LMFT
I am a licensed psychotherapist in private practice specializing in providing psychological treatment and fitness to practice evaluation for licensed professionals dealing with mental health, substance abuse, and career, legal or family problems. I received my Master’s Degree in Psychology from Chapman University in Orange, California, in May, 1999. I am licensed and in good standing with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and of the American Psychological Association. I worked for 20 years in mental health clinics, recovery programs, jails and the county mental health field doing psychological assessment and evaluations, suicide and crisis interventions, psychotherapy and addiction counseling with groups and individuals as well as being in Private practice consecutively for the last 10 years.
Disclaimer: As a marriage and family therapist I help licensed professionals defend their professional license against a DUI or other law and ethics charges utilizing assessment, evaluation, and psychotherapeutic and addiction treatment within the scope of my practice, I am not nor do I claim to be a Ph.D. or Psy.d. level psychologist that does psychological testing for forensic purpose. I can recommend several excellent psychologists.
For the 10 years I worked at San Benito County Mental Health Department, one of my primary responsibilities was, under the supervision of a doctorate level clinical psychologist, and with the input of the county psychiatrist, doing court ordered mental health assessments and evaluations.
I presently work with licensed professionals such as Physicians Assistance, Behavioral Health Professionals, Registered Nurses, paramedics, EMT’s and others. My clinical work is focused on treating depression, anxiety, trauma and addiction and the unique operational stress that comes with being a first responder, medical worker, law enforcement or mental health professional. I also do crisis debriefings for agencies and companies after traumatic events.
